En 1991 se traslad\u00f3 a la ciudad de Bogot\u00e1 a realizar sus estudios de especializaci\u00f3n y maestr\u00eda en ciencias f\u00edsicas, en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. En el a\u00f1o de 1997 se traslada a Ensenada, Baja California, M\u00e9xico a realizar sus estudios de doctorado en Ciencias en F\u00edsica de Materiales, en el Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n Cient\u00edfica y de Educaci\u00f3n Superior de Ensenada (CICESE). Finalizados sus estudios doctorales, inicia una estancia posdoctoral en el Centro de Ciencias de la Materia Condensada (conocido actualmente con el nombre de Centro de Nanociencias y Nanotecnolog\u00eda de la UNAM). Tambi\u00e9n realiz\u00f3 una estancia posdoctoral en el Centro de Investigaciones en Materiales de Sevilla (Espa\u00f1a) durante el 2004 y una estancia sab\u00e1tica en la Universidad de Texas en Dalas (Estados Unidos de Am\u00e9rica) durante 2015. El Dr. De La Cruz se ha desempe\u00f1ado como docente en universidades tales como: Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Universidad Industrial de Colombia, Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Baja California, M\u00e9xico. Actualmente se desempe\u00f1a como investigador en el Centro de Nanociencias y Nanotecnolog\u00eda (CNyN) de la Universidad Nacional Aut\u00f3noma de M\u00e9xico (UNAM), en donde tiene el cargo de Investigador Titular A de tiempo completo. Cabe mencionar que actualmente pertenece al Nivel III del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores de M\u00e9xico, es el responsable del Laboratorio Nacional de Nanofabricaci\u00f3n de la UNAM. Su principal tema de investigaci\u00f3n consiste en la s\u00edntesis y caracterizaci\u00f3n de pel\u00edculas delgadas, as\u00ed como la fabricaci\u00f3n de micro-dispositivo por medio de la t\u00e9cnica de fotolitograf\u00eda. Este inter\u00e9s lo ha llevado a publicar 78 art\u00edculos en revistas de circulaci\u00f3n internacional y 8 art\u00edculos en revistas nacionales, participar en m\u00e1s de 73 congresos internacionales y 93 nacionales. En relaci\u00f3n a la formaci\u00f3n de recursos humanos, ha dirigido 4 tesis de licenciatura, 8 tesis de maestr\u00eda y 4 tesis de doctorado, actualmente dirige 2 tesis de doctorado y 4 de maestr\u00eda.
