Es investigador nacional nivel 3 del SNI desde 2002 y nivel C en el programa de est\u00edmulos del PRIDE de la UNAM. Su \u00e1rea de especialidad es la f\u00edsica experimental de superficies de s\u00f3lidos: caracterizaci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica, electr\u00f3nica y de estructura at\u00f3mica mediante t\u00e9cnicas espectrosc\u00f3picas. Ha realizado estudios en diversos materiales como catalizadores, recubrimientos duros, semiconductores, pel\u00edculas delgadas y multicapas de \u00f3xidos.\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6><\/h6>\n<h6><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Es originario de Guadalajara, Jalisco, licenciado en ingenier\u00eda mec\u00e1nica el\u00e9ctrica por el ITESO, en 1974. Obtuvo el grado de Doctor en Ciencias en el CINVESTAV en la ciudad de M\u00e9xico en 1981. Realiz\u00f3 una estancia posdoctoral en el Departamento de Qu\u00edmica de la Universidad de California, Berkeley. En 1984, se integr\u00f3 al Laboratorio de Ensenada del Instituto de F\u00edsica de la UNAM, donde se hizo cargo del equipo de an\u00e1lisis de superficies de espectroscopia de fotoelectrones de rayos X (XPS). Su l\u00ednea de investigaci\u00f3n se dirigi\u00f3 hacia la caracterizaci\u00f3n de la superficie de los materiales determinando la composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica y el estado de oxidaci\u00f3n. Es reconocido por su capacidad de an\u00e1lisis de los resultados de investigaci\u00f3n en f\u00edsica de superficies.<\/span><\/h6>\n<h6><\/h6>\n<h6><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El Dr. Far\u00edas ha considerado importante el balance entre el trabajo de investigaci\u00f3n, la formaci\u00f3n de recursos humanos y la divulgaci\u00f3n de la ciencia. Ha cultivado diversas colaboraciones acad\u00e9micas con grupos de investigadores, principalmente del pa\u00eds. Cuenta con 164 art\u00edculos en revistas internacionales, con m\u00e1s de 2000 citas independientes.
